Making 6 figures as a freelance web designer is kind of like a rite of passage.

When I was first introduced to the world of freelancing I was kind of shocked at how freelancers would just openly tell me they made over 6 figures a year without me asking.

When I asked a friend about it they told me that making 6 figures just helps people to frame where you’re at in your business. It’s not really a prideful thing as much as it is a mile marker.

That’s why I was excited to sit down this week and chat with Avani Miriyala.

Avani was able to grow her freelance UX design business to 6 figures in just 8 months ?

Today, she continues to grow her agency and runs a podcast called The Six Figure Freelancer.

I was pretty surprised when asking Avani what set 6 figure freelance web designers apart from others.

It turns out it doesn’t have much to do with a secret sales strategy, social media marketing, or design skill. You know, all of the usual stuff that people typically assume brings you up to that next level?

The key factor in becoming a 6 figure freelance web designer:

Mindset

A mindset that keeps going when it gets tough.

A mindset that helps you pivot when something isn’t quite working the way you thought it would.

A mindset that doesn’t see your ultimate value in the amount of money you made this last year.

A mindset that says even if you can’t figure this out now you will if you just keep going and learning.

Mastering Your Mindset

I’ve talked a lot about how mindset shapes your business as a freelance web designer. And, every week on my podcast I end with a send off of “If you don’t quit you win.”

I’ve found that mindset is also THE MOST IMPORTANT THING to conquer as a freelance web designer. And, I don’t say that lightly.

There is nothing that will cripple you as a freelancer quite like discouragement or a dry season or a bad review from a client or even a big mess-up on your part.

It’s in those moments that you have to decide, “Will I allow this to force me to quit OR will I keep going?”
